       Lt General T P S Rawat (a former Minister in N D Tiwari Cabinet) has joined the BJP and rosined his Dhumakote Assembly seat to enable C M Maj Gen B C Khanduri to contest the by-poll from the constituency. It is understood that   he will be the BJP candidate from Pauri Lok Sabha seat once Maj Gen Kanduri is elected to the Assembly. Interstingly, Maj Gen Kanduri defeated Lt Gen Rawat in 2004 parliamentary election from same constituency.

Famous Uttarakhandi philosopher and writer Dr Govind Chatak (Dr. Govind Singh Kandari) passed away on 11-06-07.  He was writer, and philosopher of International repute. His Native is Village Sarkasaini, under Patti Losat, Block Kirti Nagar in district Tehari,   did is his schooling from Mussoorie, Dehra Doon and later PhD from Allahabad. His famous works are "Lok Sanskriti Ka Sandharbh: Madhya Himalay" ,"Bansuri Bajti Rahi", "Garhwali Look Kathayen" "Sapna Muskaraya" "Garhwali Bhasa" "Garhwali Lok Geeton Ka Adhyyan" and "Lakdee Aur Ped"

 

         We pay our respectful tribute to the son of soil. May his departed soul rest in peace and may the Almighty give strength to his family to bear this great loss.

Gen Khanduri Wins: Major Gen B C Khanduri, CM of Uttarakhand won the Dhumakot assembly by-poll with a comfortable margin of over 14,000 votes over his nearest congress rival.

Dr Rajendra Kumar Pachauri born August 20, 1940 at Nainital is the Chief of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change,(IPCC) which   shares the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with Al Gore.
   
Dr Pauchari was educated at La Martiniere Boys' College in Lucknow, India. He obtained an M.S. in industrial engineering in 1972, a Ph.D. in industrial engineering, and a Ph.D. in economics from North Carolina State University.

In acknowledgement of his environmental contributions, Pachauri was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2001

The Nobel committee citation said that the two were awarded "for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change."
