Uttaranchal
is dotted with thousand of temples
associated with some Puranic or
Mahabharata period story. These Temples
do not suggest any specific
pattern. Most of them belong to Lord
Shiva, Vishnu, Goddess
Kali, Bhagwati and Nanda Devi.
Temples of local Gods and Goddess such as Golu, Sam, Chamu,
Bhumia etc are also found. Historians suggest that
Uttaranchal also remained under
influence of Buddhism during Ashoka
regime. In 8th century AD
Adi Guru Shankaracharya revived
the Hinduism. The
Lotus posture idol of Shri Badrinath was
retrieved by Shankaracharya from Narad Narad Kund
and enshrined as incarnation of
Lord Vishnu.
In other words the
whole land of Uttranchal
is always alive and vibrates
with the music of
chiming bells, bathing people at various
Ghats, chanting of Hymns, song of
local folks during festivals
and fairs. |
